Peter Walker
27th July 1957 - 15th October 1995
Peter Walker was born in Lisburn, N Ireland and was educated at Friends School and then studied Design
and graduated from Belfast College of Art in 1979. He moved to London and studied architecture at the
South Thames Polytechnic and later at North London. He was employed first by the architect James Stirling
before he became Design Director of Roger Dack Ltd.
Peter’s personal drive and character shaped the world around him. He was uncompromising in his pursuit of the well
designed object. He lived a life marked by a strength and courage that was always tempered by elegance
and grace. Peter was his own critic, always pursuing the highest standards in every facet of his work and
life, but while he was careful not to demand those exacting standards from others, his style and enthusiasm
often motivated friends and colleagues to match and mirror his easy vision of how to lead your life through
creativity.
Peter met his partner Roger Dack in 1985, and together they designed and launched the highly successful
‘Roger Dack’ range of menswear that included a sharp fashion formal range and sportswear collections,
marketed and sold worldwide. Before his untimely death in 1995, Peter was always a keen disciple of
sustainable living and recognized that design and creativity were at the heart of this movement. To this extent
he was always looking for ways to support and invest in the future of the design industry, partly to
acknowledge his own debt for a significant and successful career, but also to encourage the next generation
in the pursuit of relevant excellence through innovation and beauty.
